Fluid Thioglycollate Medium (FTM) contains a small amount of agar and several reducing agents which detects the presence of anaerobic bacteria in sterility testing. This medium is recommended by the FDA and in the USP for use in sterility confirmation. Strict aerobes tend to grow at the surface whereas obligate anaerobes grow below the upper oxidized layer portion of the broth. Each lot of media from MOLTOX is tested for sterility, where applicable, and its ability to support the growth of the appropriate microorganism.
